Wanderlist

A mobile application designed for recreational cyclists to explore their communities.

Description

Recreational cyclists seek out areas with appeasing ambience, calm traffic, and few hills because they desire a pleasant and relaxing experience. WanderList attempts to help cyclists find these areas by allowing riders to tag and share streets and paths that appeal to them.

Role

In a team of four, I worked to analyze existing research, identify key problems with functionality, and collaboratively brainstorm and mock-up solutions.

Research

After deciding on developing an application for cyclists, we quickly identified a design space for recreational cyclists. Research identified some key motivators for cyclists in terms of what elements make the ride feel more safe or enjoyable. We sought to build an application that would help these cyclists find the locations to make them aware of riding opportunities.

Process

Using tools such as storyboarding, we began to build on our goals for the application and what riders would need at different stages of their experience with WanderList. Context would play a significant role in defining the functionality of the app due to constraints that biking poses on how the app could be used.

Prototype

Paper prototypes of the mock-ups were used in user testing to identify any glaring usability issues with the interface. Some navigation and visibility problems were identified and resolved. An interactive prototype was built to demonstrate the functionality of WanderList for presentation purposes.
